Cannabis Awareness Day 2009

On a soggy Saturday afternoon, hundreds of people wandered in and out of a festival at Civic Center Plaza...

...devoted to changing the legal prohibitions against cannabis use across the globe.

There were marches and festivals in 263 other cities worldwide (click here for a listing)...

...though the single-issue cause is belittled by many political types, including our new president.

In truth, marijuana prohibition is at the nexus of a whole host of other issues such as the prison industrial complex, the counterproductive War on Drugs, and turning an overmedicated, synthetically overdrugged culture towards more natural remedies.

The crowd at the Civic Center gathering was an amusing mix of old geezers...

...and young people...

...and in the case of the band wailing away, it provided a lovely bond between both.

Ask any policeperson how many violent confrontations they have encountered with drunk people, and how many violent incidents they have encountered with people smoking cannabis alone. The ratio is probably 1,000 to 1. It's time to legalize cannabis worldwide now.

Yep -- it's definitely time to legalize pot... The gov. is definitely missing out on a lot of tax revenue.

Supervisor Aminiano was rectently working on some sort of a bill for legalization -- I'll have to see if I can find out it's status.

Love that first shot -- really cool eyeglasses...
