Walking to Sausalito 1: Shoreline

Because I needed some serious exercise on Wednesday...

...and because friends and readers in the Midwest and Northeast are currently shivering in snow drifts...

...I decided to walk from San Francisco's Civic Center to Sausalito across the bay via Fort Mason and the Marina waterfront.

Crissy Field in the Presidio was as spectacularly beautiful as ever...

...and even the newly restored beach looked like a proper sunbathing spot.

The tidal slough was playing host to thousands of birds...

...including the exotic character above.

The walk was becoming more beautiful with each step.

I'm so glad you are posting these photos, of my beloved bay and its birds. As we shovel yet another snowfall, as the potholes yawn like moon craters, I can imagine this wonderful walk.

Dear momo: You were definitely in mind when I was putting these up, along with my friend Jay in Long Island who's dealing with freezing rain.

Great Blue Heron. Loved that species when I was a bird watching sprout.

So appealing...I wonder how long it took.

Dear Kit: I was walking slowly so it took about five hours, but could easily be done in four.
