The Coast Starlight



After weeks of rain in March, California is green right now...



...as you could see on Amtrak's Coast Starlight train from Oakland to San Luis Obispo last Friday...



...with psychedelic wildflower blooms near the Elkhorn Slough in Monterey.



Snow dotted the mountaintops in the Salinas valley...



...and travelers in the observation car were oohing and ahhing...



...at the spectacular Cuesta Grade...



...which gave way to green foothills surrounding San Luis Obispo.

I loe that train, but I've never ridden it south of emeryville.

It's a great train ride all the way down to San Diego, though some of the urban areas can be ignored.

SO COOL that the train still runs down there...
"California Gold" did a story on the train a while back... Seems like the way to go...
