Veterans Building Retrofit
A huge retrofit construction project at the Veterans Building on McAllister between Van Ness and Franklin...
...has recently gone into a new phase where the skylights have been removed from the rooftop...
...and suddenly there are workers crawling around who can look directly into my living room window.
I suppose I should start putting on some clothes when drinking my morning coffee.
According to security workers at the War Memorial Performing Arts Complex, the project is supposed to be completed "sometime near the end of next year, maybe, if everything goes according to plan, which it usually doesn't." They also mentioned that the roof replacement is the costliest part of the project because it is all copper which has become vastly more expensive than when the building was originally constructed in 1931.
