Our 52 palm trees in Palm Springs were given their annual poodle cut last week.
The severity of the pruning and the timing are a perpetual controversy around town...
...but nobody denies that if you leave the task too long into the summer, the falling fronds and pollen discharge are a recipe for messy disaster.
The tree trimmers are adventurous young men, mostly from Oaxaca, who go tearing up and down the long trees as if they were in an updated Jon Hall/Dorothy Lamour film. Click here for some video.

Well gee, SFMovieMan, I would think Palm Springs would have a lot more than 52 palms, but what do I know... Farther down on your channel I got a kick out of seeing the Tiger episode again.
We are having our cocunut palms trimmed today. Don't want a big old coconut falling my head.
And that statue of Marilyn: hideous.
