On a cold, windswept Saturday morning in Civic Center Plaza, college graduates were scurrying about on their way to Bill Graham Auditorium for a commencement ceremony.
I asked one of them if they were graduating from the Academy of Art, which seemed to offend them...
...since the ceremonies were actually for the West Coast's oldest law school, University of California's Hastings College of the Law which is in a series of buildings on McAllister Street in the Civic Center.
There were parents and grandparents in a long queue waiting along the plaza to be allowed into the auditorium, which was being protected by San Francisco policemen for some reason. The scene felt very old San Francisco.
