Grated Fries on Polk

At the corner of Polk and California Streets earlier this week, there was yet another surreal San Francisco sight.

Somebody had dumped a huge pile of french fries on top of a storm drain. It looked like conceptual modern art, complete with ironic NO DUMPING signage.

  1. No pigeons or seagulls discovered this prize? That just adds to the surrealist-art-installation feel.

  3. Love this catch.

For reasons not worth going into, I often trot a few miles in the bike lane on Valencia just after dawn on Sunday mornings. In the party block between 16th and 17th, bored workers are sometimes hosing down the sidewalks. They need it. A couple of weeks ago, I lumbered through -- and suddenly found myself on my butt. What had looked like water turned out to be a thin oil. Maybe someone cleaned out the fryer? It was so slick, no harm was done. I have no dignity to lose. :-)

  4. If this installation is not conceptual modern art, your photograph is.

Print it - Frame it - Hang it in a gallery or Cafe - limit the edition to 10 - put an $500 price tag on it.
