The Dew Tour extreme sports competition finally took place this weekend in Civic Center Plaza after weeks of construction.
There were plenty of places for spectators to play, but the event seemed geared mostly for television cameras and the marketing of brands...
...including an entire tent set up for fancy Paul Mitchell haircuts at rock bottom prices.
There was an unusually heavy police presence Saturday morning, which seemed excessive even by the SFPD's usual "event protection" racket standards...
...but it's quite possible they were in Civic Center to watch out for a public Catholic worship event at nearby United Nations Plaza.
After a special mass and march from St. Mary's Cathedral to the plaza, there was something called a Rosary Rally that was being led by San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone above and below left.
He was speaking to the crowd of about 1,000 in fluent Spanish, where I heard him mention "el comunismo." As the major architect of the Proposition 8 anti-gay marriage campaign in California, the Archbishop also probably inveighed against "los homosexuales" but we didn't stick around to find out.

Oh gee. Poor old SF. But I do think you take great photos, so that's a comfort.
