100 Van Ness, Harbinger of the Apocalypse
The 100 Van Ness skyscraper at the corner of Fell has recently recently been looking like a harbinger of the Apocalypse.
The 29-story building used to be the headquarters for the California State Automobile Association before they abandoned San Francisco for Walnut Creek in 2009. Ownership of the real estate passed onto the National Electrician Benefit Fund which is redeveloping the old offices as 400 "deluxe" apartments along with the local Emerald Fund.
The transformation should be fascinating to watch, though the open-aired shell of a building is a reminder of everything blowing up in the world these days, from a volcano in Mexico City to a town in Quebec to a Korean airline on the San Francisco airport runway.
