Civic Center Plaza has seemingly become a new favorite site for religious cult gatherings, from the Falun Gong exercisers to the Latino Pentecostal Christian group above who were having a call-and-response musical concert Saturday afternoon that truthfully looked like a lot of fun.
The amplified salsa-flavored rock music was infectious, with the minister repeating a single word followed by the crowd echoing him while jumping around.
Next to the stage there were young people in matching T-shirts doing synchronized dance routines to the songs.
With a bit of Googling, I tracked down the group as being loosely affiliated with Ministerio Clamor a Dios out of Puerto Rico led by a controversial, right-wing pentecostal pastor named Jorge Raschke. According to a blog site:
"Among the points that strongly supports the ministry "Cry to God" are the fight against abortion, the institution of marriage between a man and a woman, and his opposition to euthanasia."With that platform, why not just be a Catholic?

These folks had placards on cars all over the Mission. I hadn't realized their wingding was in Civic Center.
Do you remember the time fifteen or so years ago when some evangelist brought a revival to Civic Center on Halloween, to pray away the satanic forces? Quite the occasion.
