Giants Simulcast in Civic Center Plaza
A large screen is being assembled right now in Civic Center Plaza for a simulcast of the Giants game this evening, starting at 4:30 PM.
No alcohol is supposedly being allowed at the event, but there are plenty of places nearby for a beer: The former Temple Bar at Eddy and Polk has gone upscale and is called "Noble," but it has plenty of large screens for game-watching; Chevy's (above) on Van Ness and Golden Gate is a couple of blocks away and has a huge bar with lots of screens; and finally, Buck Tavern on Market near Valencia has decent burgers and a lively, divey atmosphere.
Be sure to bring a blanket to put on the hard-packed dirt in the center of the plaza, and a beach chair like John Castro (above), who is officially the first person camped out in the plaza at 12:30 PM.
It should be fun to watch Freddy Sanchez make his big "OOOOOH!" expression with a large group of fans...
...not to mention booing the dastardly duo above.
