The Ascension of Lady Gaga
For inexplicable reasons, the fact that a new pop star calling herself Lady Gaga has appeared out of nowhere to sell out two shows...
...at the large, ugly Bill Graham Auditorium in the Civic Center on Sunday and Monday cheers me no end.
It was only a year and a half ago she was performing at Trannyshack!
ReplyDeleteWell, she's neither a Virgin (Mobile) or a lady (Gaga)...
ReplyDeleteBut I adore wickedness and illicit sexuality, so bring the temptress on... Slay us with your ticket prices...
And keep those damn kids behind the baracades...
Or, as I know think of her, thanks to the mother of a friend of mine, "Mrs GooGoo" (as in, "that Mrs GooGoo sure is popular now!").
ReplyDeleteSorry, that should be "now think of her" -- I should stop typing now
ReplyDeleteMy daughter (who is 15) and I are big fans, maybe because we are also big fans of Mark Kanemura, So You Think You Can Dance contestant and one of her Gaga boy dancers on this tour. We also love all the parodies and mash-ups of her stuff you can find on YouTube. And most of all we love that she spoke up on the Mall in DC and at the Human Rights Campaign dinner (regardless of how you feel about HRC) in plain simple language about how important it is for all of us to work for full huma rights for all.
ReplyDeleteand she played for the Queen! LOL
My favorite Lady GaGa inspired addition to the culture so far is this version of Poker Face by the men's group Noteworthy from U.C. Berkeley.

I'm not crazy about her live performances, but much of her music is good. Mark Kanemura is in the show? Well, that makes sense. I always thought he had an effeminate quality in his dancing and from what I've seen of her backup dancers on TV, he should do very nicely.
ReplyDeleteWhen it turns out that people like Lady Gaga, T-Pain, and Condoleezza Rice can actually play piano, it makes me (as a pianist) like them when otherwise I wouldn't.
