La Mamma Morta

My mother, Patricia Strickland, died at home in San Luis Obispo last Thursday evening at the age of 75. An aggressive brain tumor killed her quickly, gently and fairly peacefully. Her four children have been doing a lot of crying, and we'll be joining each other this week to spread her ashes at her favorite beach in the world.

The photo above is from three weeks ago when she was taken out to lunch by Jack Watson, an old friend from Redondo Beach High School days. Goodbye, mom.

Update: My niece Katie put up a nice blogsite with photos which you can get to by clicking here.

  8. In the rising of the sun and in its going down,
    We remember them.
In the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter
    We remember them.
In the opening of the buds and in the rebirth of spring,
    We remember them.
In the blueness of the sky and in the warmth of summer,
    We remember them.
In the rustling of the leaves and in the beauty of autumn,
    We remember them.
In the beginning of the year and when it ends,
    We remember them.
When we are weary and in need of strength,
    We remember them.
When we are lost and sick at heart,
    We remember them.
When we have joys we yearn to share,
    We remember them.
So long as we live, they too shall live,
For they are now a part of us,
    As we remember them.

Words from the Book of Jewish Common Prayer.

I sorrow for your sorrow. Namaste!

  16. My sympathies, too, Michael. I never met your Mom, but I wish I had.

Goodbye, Patricia Strickland. The world is a more interesting place, to me, because you were in it, and brought into the world someone who would grow up to become an absolute original!

I suspect that you were one of those, yourself.

  24. SFMike -- I'm going to assume the comment above in Chinese is from a friend of yours from the Asian museum.

Forgive me for not posting my condolences sooner. Based on what I know of you, your Mom did a great job of raising her kids to be conscious of their community. It's a great legacy.

Loved the photo of her with the pearls on the site you link to. Was that her high school graduation photo?

    All the best, Monica
