A huge line snaked down the second floor hallway of San Francisco's City Hall on Thursday at noon with people waiting to get into the Board of Supervisors chamber for the inauguration of four new city supervisors.
Most of the seats had already been taken by friends, family and supporters so the overflow was directed to the ground floor...
...to the lovely North Light Court...
...and a totally inadequate audio-visual setup.
The security gates on Polk Street were jammed with crowds arriving for the inauguration and looking at them I realized for the first time that three out of the eleven supervisors are young Asian Americans.
In this most Asian of American cities, it's way past time for political inclusion that goes beyond tokenism, and it was heartening to see.
