Honest John

On the way to work on election day, I waited at a bus stop in front of Davies Symphony Hall alongside the gentleman above, who was electioneering the passing traffic on Van Ness Avenue. Proposition K was an attempt to decriminalize prostitution in San Francisco (it seems to have lost handily), and finally curiosity got the better of me.

"Why are you campaigning for Proposition K?" I asked him. "Because I'm a customer. And you know, a happy hooker is, well, happier." This struck me as one of the least hypocritical political statements I'd ever heard. And congratulations everyone. It feels like a very dark cloud is finally breaking up after eight years.

  1. This is the first time I ever watched election returns with a crowd, and it was amazing. We had on MSNBC and they were just covering the national stuff, so it was a lot of good news.

It wasn't until this morning I found out that 8 passed, which puts a damper on things.

Even so, this is the best election day of my adult life by a very wide margin.
