The Art of Seeing
One of San Francisco's best annual art shows opened on October 2nd in City Hall's basement for two months.
"Insights 2008" is a nationally juried exhibition of 45 artists curated by the Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired, which is next door on Van Ness Avenue.
The artists range from totally blind to "legally" blind, with plenty of variations.
Some of the artists are only able to see colors while others discern only shapes.
What comes across most powerfully every year is how much these artists are focused on the simple act of seeing...
...and sharing their visions is very much a part of that identity.
There's an opening reception on Tuesday, October 21st from 5:30 to 7:30 PM which is usually a fascinating affair that includes most of the artists in person. Check it out.
Beautiful Pictures. Thanks.

Fabulous post - I'm going to "pimp" you over at Chez Namastenancy. For all Kenneth Baker's pretentions, I don't think he's ever reviewed this.
ReplyDeleteThese are just breath-taking -- will have to get over there. Might learn something about blindness.
ReplyDeleteDear Jan: I'm taking my friend Louisa for the opening party at 5:30 on the 21st. Join us. Call me. I'm in the phone book.
