Fleeing The Sunday Fog
After the All-Star Game hoopla was over, the San Francisco Giants started the second half of their season with an excruciating sweep by their arch-enemy Los Angeles Dodgers.
We watched the first inning of Sunday's eventual 5-3 loss from the free standing room section behind right field...
...and things started off so ugly for the home team that it looked like the cop guarding the field was really going to have his work cut out for him.
Our main intention all day was to stay on the sunny, eastern side of San Francisco and avoid the fog and attendant howling winds of the west side.
Still, we decided to tempt the weather fates by showing up at Dolores Park for a free San Francisco Symphony concert at four in the afternoon.
The crowd was enjoyable...
...with gay dudes serving each other beers on a plastic tray...
...fashion plates carrying on phone calls...
...and cute couples laid out on blankets waiting for the concert.
Even the conductor, James Gaffigan, was spotted smooching with his girlfriend in the crowd.
After a number of dumb speeches by the San Francisco Art Commission and somebody from the wretched KDFC classical radio station...
...the "Latin" themed concert was underway...
...featuring the legendary bandoneon player Daniel Binelli from Argentina.
Unfortunately, the winds tearing down from Twin Peaks were blowing away the music stands and the sheet music which seemed to seriously rattle Gaffigan the conductor.
Plus, the amplified sound was so weird and annoying that we didn't stay for the second half, but decided to escape eastward away from the gale-force winds.
Mike, I'm dazzled by your social whirl - you're everyplace, see everything and have something to say about it. Could you possibly be a reincarnation of Herb Caen?
ReplyDeleteMike: yeah, the amplified sound was terrible at stern grove too. I've never notice the issue with the park concerts of the opera, I wonder if they hire the same technicians.
ReplyDeleteweekend weather sucked...as did the giants...I think the term is "PWNED"....I ended up spending a productive Sunday watching Yo Yo Girl Cop...I think your sunday was a bit more interesting....
