Any concerns about a drought in California this winter...
...have vanished with a wild series of rainstorms through most of the holidays.
The precipitation has in turn made "Flock," the temporary Michael Christian sculpture in Civic Center...
...thoroughly rusty.
Whether intended or not, I like the effect.
The mangrove-root-like legs suddenly mirror the pruned French sycamores in the plaza.
Wherever the sculpture does finally end up resting, it might be interesting to plant vines of ivy along the legs.
"Flock" is also providing another service...
...as a great perching spot.

Noticing the birds use of the sculpture was the first time I actually smiled as I walked by it.
