I was very disappointed that I could not attend the concert, but family was not allowed. My son plays the song my brother wrote, and it always makes me smile. Again, thank you for the article and pictures!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11380345.post-7321289110790736192014-02-14T10:11:51.371-08:002014-02-14T10:11:51.371-08:00Beautiful, MichaelBeautiful, MichaelChristine Okonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09231310534945233240noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11380345.post-54145891757007049142014-02-07T00:37:13.881-08:002014-02-07T00:37:13.881-08:00A couple of months ago I had the pleasure of inter...A couple of months ago I had the pleasure of interviewing Sarah Cahill – at that time she was still in the planning stages for this performance, but was already amazed at the response she’d had from the inmates.
One of the things she talked about was the physicality of performing Henry’s music; the pounding glory of those clusters, and how exciting it was to get into the piano. Everyone relates to that, musicians, non-musicians, audience or performers.
Bravo to her for doing this tremendous project. She incarnates Cowell's fighting spirit!
-G Livingston
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11380345.post-11734052773326896612014-01-29T12:43:00.048-08:002014-01-29T12:43:00.048-08:00Wonderful account. Interestingly, it was Seeger's father Charles, who founded the music department at UC Berkeley, who was Cowell's first serious musical mentor when Henry was a teenager. Seeger offered private composition lessons to Henry for free because he could hear the kid was special.Civic Centerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12362422142667230626noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11380345.post-16793372743175801122014-01-28T08:00:19.992-08:002014-01-28T08:00:19.992-08:00Mike, what a wonderful event - thank you for writi...Mike, what a wonderful event - thank you for writing so beautifully about it. Just after reading this I learned that Pete Seeger has died. What a man he was. A quote leapt out at me:

“Songs won’t save the planet,” Seeger said “But, then, neither will books or speeches…Songs are sneaky things. They can slip across borders. How amazing that a man so persecuted could rise about the persecution and whose spirit infuses this program. Nancy Ewarthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12116290968007398337noreply@blogger.com
