The rules were simple but seldom followed--no squirming, no making faces, and no noise. My favorite part of the orchestra was always the percussionists, because they seemed to have ALL the fun. Unfortunately, I was sent for piano lessons which I hated with a passion--mainly because they seriously disrupted my Saturday play-time. Then when I signed up for band in the 4th grade all the percussionist's slots had been filled and they insisted I hunker down on the Mellophone, which is sort of a French Horn with trumpet-like valves. The instrument was in bad shape and stunk. I constantly had to take little breaks and drain the device of spit. Well, I finally did get to the point where I could actually get the device to make a range of sounds, but just as the fun was starting I brought home a report card with a "D" in Spelling Class. Unacceptable. When my parents checked with the school they found out that my band practice took place simultaneously with Spelling Class. So, although mine was a very musical family, I was yanked out of Band and told to buckle-down in Spelling Class. --End result, well today I can neither spell OR play a musical instrument.AphotoAdayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08581940419934089601noreply@blogger.com
