That sounds like Robert Haaland, a local leftist union organizer who calls everybody "anti-trans" if you happen to disagree with him about anything.

If the awful speaker had just been introduced by his name, then I would have reflexively used the masculine. Instead, we had to know that this fairly unattractive guy with a grating voice had once been a woman.

In my 30 years in San Francisco, I've known a lot of transsexuals and also a number of people living as another gender without going through the operation. Some of them are very successful at this transformation, and it brings out the best in them. Others are not so successful, and it seems to bring out the worst. The Gay Pride speaker seemed to be one of the latter cases, with a pugnacious male delivery that still managed to sound like a stereotypical Angry Lesbian. Hence the he/she.

Glad you like my blog, though. I went and checked yours out too and it's quite interesting, especially the music samples. Hope to check out your concert at the Luggage Store in August. And please, take the Lyme Disease stuff seriously. Hope it all works out well.Civic Centerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12362422142667230626noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11380345.post-1152569829675975192006-07-10T15:17:00.000-07:002006-07-10T15:17:00.000-07:00I dig your blog, but what's with the "he/she" busi...I dig your blog, but what's with the "he/she" business? If he says he's a trans man, than obviously, he's a HE. Just because he's annoying speaker is no need to use anti-trans language.Charles CĂ©leste Hutchinshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18123138871494922485noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11380345.post-1152123773378981122006-07-05T11:22:00.000-07:002006-07-05T11:22:00.000-07:00Elza was in the Mahler 8th, wasn't she? Too many years of this; too much banal drivel from my "leaders."

In 1994 at Stonewall, my partner and I gave out "Gay Liberation: A movement not a market" stickers which were received with some enthusiasm. Can't imagine that today.

Thanks for the link in the next post.janinsanfranhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07548452260456734928noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11380345.post-1151427708773801332006-06-27T10:01:00.000-07:002006-06-27T10:01:00.000-07:00If the president of the parade board of director s...If the president of the parade board of director sounded as bad as he looked, he must have been about unbearable!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
