Newly on View on Floor Two
On the second floor of the Asian Art Museum, over half of the galleries for the permanent collection have rotated in works "newly on view"...
...including the wild Japanese basket room...
...with its collection of objects that stretch the meaning of the word "basket"...
...and monster Japanese screens that I've never seen before...
...that are both delicate...
...and exquisitely beautiful.
The Korean galleries are fronted by a huge painting recently completed at the museum itself by a Buddhist nun, which made me think of my Tibetan Buddhist friend Heidi who is trying to survive the fires in the Santa Barbara area while flirting with cute firemen arriving from all over the country to aid our smoldering state.
There were very few people in attendance last Thursday evening, which was lovely, and I'd recommend the beautiful museum highly.

I spent several hours watching the nun working on that painting. I am thrilled to know I can see the finished piece the next time I get into the city. Thank you.
