But I've never read it or anything by Gertrude Stein until recently. It's been a real kick getting to know them through their own work.Civic Centerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12362422142667230626noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11380345.post-26091969516017116962011-06-08T10:04:32.851-07:002011-06-08T10:04:32.851-07:00I'm quite fond of both Stein and Toklas. I found a website which has sound files of Gertrude reading her own works. She has a lovely voice and when she reads a piece, some of them almost make sense.
Gertrude reading:
http://www.sas.upenn.edu/~jenglish/Courses/Spring02/104/steinpicasso.htmlNancy Ewarthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12116290968007398337noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11380345.post-53621643816487627512011-06-06T14:38:59.586-07:002011-06-06T14:38:59.586-07:00Dear Patrick: I'll edit your Gertrude-immersio...Dear Patrick: I'll edit your Gertrude-immersion fabulousness in the text in the interests of perfect accuracy.Civic Centerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12362422142667230626noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11380345.post-81036759682631830222011-06-06T11:38:34.807-07:002011-06-06T11:38:34.807-07:00Thanks for the compliments, but I have to scale ba...Thanks for the compliments, but I have to scale back my Gertrude-immersion -- I couldn't have said I'd read almost every word she's ever written -- I would more modestly and accurately have said I've read quite a bit -- but yes, I have read every word of The Making of Americans, so good for me.Patrick J.
