The $5.25 Sausalito Ferryboat Ride

One of the few deals left in San Francisco is the Sausalito Ferry from the San Francisco Ferry Building, one of the most beautiful boat rides in the world.

As usual, tourists are being soaked for a shakedown price of $10.25 each way, but if you have a Clipper card it is assumed you are a local commuter, and the price is only $5.25.

When you arrive in Sausalito, walk a block off of Bridgeway to Caledonia Street where locals shop and hang out away from the hordes of turistas. It's a charming little town.

I didn't realize about the Clipper Card. Wonder if it does the Senior discount too? The Clipper Senior discount is one of the Bay Area's best deals!

Dear Jan: According to the website, you get 50% off with the Clipper Senior discount card, which makes the ticket about $2.62.

I get woozy when I think about all this these days. I grew up in the Bay Area and left in 1964, never to live there again.
It was a totally different place, but the beauty remains.
