Pencil Me In

After leaving Arts in Storefronts on Friday, we wandered to 8th and Mission where there was an art opening at the Electric Works gallery at 8th and Mission.

San Francisco artist Bob Van Breda has started creating Pencil Sculptures...

...that come in all configurations...

...from relatively life-size...

...to blow-up Koons/Oldenberg pop culture scale.

They are all completely charming.

In an adjoining room, there are cases beautifully laid out with pencil ephemera...

...from pencil sharpeners to pencil boxes.

When I told gallery owner Richard Lang how successful and enjoyable the show was, his response was, "What's not to like?"

The display of sharpeners was wonderful, and I loved the early ads for Crayola that explained to the public how wax crayons worked. It's amazing to think that it's only been 100 years since they were new technology!

Great space.
