Yes Skaters, No Tweakers

The cool looking DLX Skateboards shop is on Market Street near the Octavia Boulevard intersection mess.

The store features a riot of logos and artwork, but one charmingly homemade sign predominates on their front door, a polite request for "Crackheads" and "Methies" to stay away.

This may be the first time this message has been offered publicly outside of the "men seeking men" personals on Craigslist.

I fell in love with the store over 10 years ago. My skater cousins were 12 and 14 at the time and visiting from up in Washington. First, we accidentally went to that other skate store on Haight Street. They were so nasty in that place – maybe it’s changed, but I have never been back. The next day we went to DLX. They couldn’t have been cooler at DLX and Uncle Tofu has been finding cool gifts from San Francisco there ever since.

Dear Uncle Tofu: Glad to hear the testimonial to DLX's coolness. I absolutely love the sign and the energy of the place.

I love the piece of toast on the sign, looking very toasted.
